Archdiocese of Los Angeles Teacher Induction Program (TIP) 2010

Registration is now open for the 2010 Teacher Induction Program (TIP). This three-day workshop is for all teachers new to your school for the 2010-2011 school year and any teachers new to your school in 2009-2010 who did not attend TIP last year.

August 17 & 18
Focus: Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century
The sessions on these two days will be led by Paula Rutherford, Senior Consultant with Just ASK Publications and Professional Development and author of Why Didn’t I Learn This in College?, the text used in the workshop series. All participants receive a copy of Why Didn’t I Learn This in College? with a CD-ROM of templates and tools plus a Participant’s Manual.

Teachers participating in these highly interactive TIP sessions will leave with:

  • A plan for the first week of school
  • A comprehensive list of procedures and routines to put in place so that their classrooms are organized for learning
  • An expanded repertoire of active learning strategies they can use to help students access prior knowledge, process their learning, make personal connections, set purpose for reading, and build vocabulary
  • Multiple ways to check for understanding and to gather and use formative assessment data
  • An array of options for scaffolding instruction for students lacking in background knowledge, second language learners, and students with other learning challenges
  • Strategies for creating a learning-centered environment that is welcoming, safe, non-threatening, yet appropriately challenging


August 19
Neil Quinly, Department of Catholic Schools, will facilitate the August 19th session which will focus upon The Mission of Teaching in our Catholic Schools and Catholic Identity. Breakout sessions will also be scheduled to allow teachers learn and share best practices for teaching religion.

Location and Time
All three sessions will be held at The Wilshire Hotel, 3515 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
